Teaching sociology gives me so much joy… but also puts me through a lot of pain and struggle! I put a lot of work into teaching effectively, constantly trying new things, and always trying to find a better way to educate and support my students.
On this page, I’ve posted past syllabi I’ve used for the classes I’ve taught. These are by no means perfect, and I update them every semester. With that said, feel free to use these syllabi to help you in building or updating your courses, and let me know if you’ve found ways to improve on them.
Past Course Syllabi
- Sociological Perspectives on the Dynamics of Gender: A 300-level sociology of gender course that attempts to go into some more advanced readings than did the course at the 200-level, while still going over some basics for those who didn’t take the 200-level course.
- Sociological Imagination: A 300-level core course that serves as a “sociologist’s toolbox”. Writing intensive, we dig deep into sociological theory and methods and practice reading strategies to unpack them, we learn how to write about theory and methods, we try to understand what causes debates in sociology, and we learn about research ethics.
- Education & Society: A 200-level course on the sociology of education
- The Family: A 200-level course on the sociology of the family
